Flag Football in the United States

Flag Football has become a national obsession in the past few years. No longer is it the simple friendly game. Flag Football has become extremely competitive and organized.

 

The days of intramural fun and games with no contact are still available, but Flag Football Competitive leagues and Flag Football Organizations have formed across the country with both major and minor corporate sponsorships. There are Men’s Professional Flag Football teams in several cities on the East Cost.  The NFL has even sponsored Youth Leagues and National Men’s Tournaments. There is a league for everyone based upon their individual skill level, age, sex, and desire.

 

Flag Football has various skill levels and divisions amongst there leagues. The upper level team is considered Group A.  Individuals in the Group A normally have beyond high school level of football experience.  Some Group A team have former college athletes as well a former Professional level players.  The Group B level has its share of athletes but usually not that the amount of experience and level that consistently participates in the Flag Football group A. The Group C level of Flag Football is normal comparable to a Church League Softball Team.  All fun, not ultra competitive, an often time just people that wish to participate rather than truly compete.

 

The phenomenon of Flag Football has taken on the same level of organization and skill as the competitive Softball leagues throughout the nation. There are leagues that cater to the non-competitive all the way up to ultra competitive leagues.  Women leagues, Coed leagues, youth leagues, as well as intramural league have sprung up in recent years.  Major Broadcasting companies such as Fox News and NBC have telecast Flag Football competitions.

  Celebrity Flag Football Games appear on TV for fund raising events, as well the Championship Games of competitive Flag Football Organizations.

There is not a lot of equipment needed to play Flag Football. An Official Flag Football belt, a football and the desire to play is all that is needed.

The Organizations of Flag Football are different as well based upon the area or region in which you participate. Outlined on the Organizations Page are several top level Flag football leagues and organizations across the country.  Each has multiple skill levels, divisions and styles of play. There are State Tournaments and National Championship Leagues based upon the geographical area of the county.

Flag Football equipment is minor.  Each Player must wear a special Belt with “Rip” flags attached.
